Our First Team Building Activity - “The Tallest Straw Tower”!

27/04/09 – I guess you all remember this date, don’t you? As for both of us, it was a really memorable first day at CTI! We had so much fun especially while trying to construct the tallest tower with straws, matches, paper pins and string. Who would have thought that one could learn so much from such an activity?! It taught us how working in a team could make us achieve what would not have been possible doing by oneself. Through this activity we learnt that good planning and organization are the prerequisites of success in a team.

  1. Yeah, it was a fun-filled activity entirely crafted for us to discover the importance of teamwork. At the end of the day, we all started to think and act as a team.

  2. The way I viewed that day

For sure I would remember this day. At first, when we were given straws, matches, paper pins and strings to build the tallest building, i told to myself
``These guys got to be joking. How do you expect me to make a building with only these materials? ``

As you all have experienced, the base need to be strong in order to the building to stand firmly. But how to make a rigid and solid base? That was the big question. Then I came up with this ides: Using fire to melt the straws so as to make solid corners.

Luckily, it was a success. We were able to come up with a good base but right at the start we lost some precious time in trying to solve the previous question. At the end our building was 2 meters, which is the second best performance.

By the ways, a big thanks to all the girls in my team that day. You were really great in assembling the straws.

  3. yeah that was really a memorable first day. In the beginning we were all a bit confused as to how we would proceed. I thought:what a weird activity for acca students. but it turned out to be very educative.
To have the tallest tower is only possible when having a strong base. the idea did not come like that at that moment.
    so rich experience.
