Part time jobs for students– Opportunities or traps?!

Beyond doubt, it is a financial boost for both the student and his family. He will be able to cover part, if not all, of his expenses on travelling, clothing…and the remaining amount will contribute to widen the budget of the family.

By performing part time jobs, students are able to bridge the gap between the educational institution and the world of work. They even accumulate experience and employability skills which might eventually help them to get a better permanent job than that they would have normally obtained with just their academic qualifications.

However, studying and working as a part timer demands a great deal of hard work and time management. The part timer will have little free time for himself, his family or his friends. Besides studies and work, all that he will be focussing on is sleeping in order to restore his energy and keep up with the pace.

What do you think of part time jobs for students???
I want your reactions!!!

  1. Time management plays a great role for students willing to do part time jobs. It certainly improves our financial condition but it has got a cost as well. Doing part time jobs might not be suitable for everyone as the main aim of any student is to complete his studies. But those who believe they can manage both studies and work can opt for a part time job.

  2. Personally i am not really for part time jobs for students mainly because of the numerous drawbacks you listed above i.e less time for family, friends, longer studies duration etc. In most cases these students are really tired and are left with very little time for themselves. However, not every students have the same chances, those whom their parents are able and ready to sponsor them do not really have to work but others who do not enjoy the same facilities have to work inorder to be able further pursue their studies. So, i think that it is all a question of whether these students are being sponsored or not.

Beside all these we are all aware that part time jobs are very helpful as they help to acquire experience, and help us to better secure our future by acquiring employability skills.....In considering its benefits, it is now up to students to decide on how they want to built up their future and chosing between the two paths which are studies 1st and then working or both studies and work at the same time. To my point of view, both ways will lead to the same path if the students has the will.

  3. I believe that when we work we gain in terms of maturity. Instead of wasting time in leisure activities, we concentrate more on studies and your career. Working and financing our studies on our own helps us to understand what difficulties our parents undergo to satisfy our needs and wants.

  4. Rightly said Shehzaad. Doing part time jobs in order to finance their studies is a bit like a last resort for students who can't rely on their parents to do so or who do not benefit from scholarships.

In such cases, part time jobs are more than simple opportunities, they act as a saviour.

  5. I completely agree to what you've said above, Komal!

It's only when we'll be working and earning money in order to meet our daily expenses that we're going to experience the difficulties our parents have gone through in order to raise us.

  6. Well komal i do not believe in studying day and night. I think that leisure plays a big role in our daily life. I'd get bored if i had no time to relax, to do some sports, have some fun with friends. Leisure activities are not wastes of time, proof: didn't you enjoy our cti+ outing??? am sure u did. What i want to point out is that if we plan our studies properly there can be time for other things too.

  7. It is said that education is a lifelong process. After completing our ACCA Professional Certificate, most of us will be working and pursuing further studies in order to become more qualified and obtain promotions or better jobs. Consequently, we’re bound to strike a balance among work, studies and free time.

Like Arun already mentioned, time management is really important.

  8. Well it all depends. For me I was forced because I needed money to pay for my studies and help my family.
Luckily I found a job that I could work from home but this was never easy especially in times of assignments and exams.
But I am glad that I have been through this and was a good experience.

  9. Part time job? I am for it. Even now, I want to work and continue studying at the same time. From December till February, I was working as a technical support executive at Eben. To tell you the truth, I love this feeling of earning money. However, I was working at night. I had to sleep during the day and work at night. You have no social life. Everything is disturbed. I had to do it. I was lacking money to continue my studies. It may be a trap but it is a trap that the person has looked for.

Sacrifices are a must in life; I don’t like to get everything on a golden plate. I strive for it even if it’s tough. So to answer your question on part time jobs, I think that there are many people like me and Joshua.
